My stay at the Thistle Hotel had its ups and downs. The location was fantastic, just a short walk from key spots in Edinburgh. However, the condition of the room left much to be desired, as it seemed quite dated and cleanliness was an issue. The staff were friendly and helpful, but I faced several inconveniences during my visit.

Rooms
5.0
The room was spacious, but definitely in need of some TLC. I noticed it was a bit dated, with dust on the light shades and a few maintenance issues, like the toilet not being secured and dirty shower door rails. Overall, it felt more like a budget accommodation than a boutique hotel.
Service

The staff, especially Ryan, were very friendly and willing to help. Although Ryan rectified some issues when I raised them, I would’ve liked to see more proactive management during my stay.

The location was superb, just a 10-15 minute walk to Princes Street, making it easy to explore the city. Plus, the area was quiet, which was a nice break from the hustle and bustle.
Dining

I found the continental breakfast to be rather scarce, lacking variety. On the plus side, the food I did have was decent, but overall, the dining experience fell short of expectations.

The lack of an elevator in this old building made lugging my suitcase upstairs a bit of a workout. While the common areas had a charming vibe, there were quite a few basic housekeeping issues in my room.

My stay at the Thistle Hotel was nice for many reasons. the staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make me feel at home. The location is perfect, a quiet spot that’s still within walking distance of all the major attractions. However, the stairs to my room were quite steep, which might be an issue for some. Overall, it was a cozy spot that exuded charm, especially during the Christmas season.

The Thistle Hotel offers a charming stay in a lovely area of Edinburgh but is definitely in need of renovations. While I appreciated the friendly staff and comfortable breakfast, my room had some significant issues, including a poor bed and a bathroom that needed attention. Overall, I enjoyed my time in the city, but the accommodations fell short of expectations.

Rooms

My room was quite outdated, and the bed was uncomfortable, making it hard to sleep well. The bathroom had a big hole behind the WC and didn’t function properly, which was disappointing.
Service

The staff were generally friendly and accommodating, particularly the breakfast team who made me feel welcome. However, the initial check-in experience was less than warm.

The breakfast was decent with a continental style offering. I would have preferred more hot options, but it was sufficient to start the day.

While there were basic facilities like laundry and housekeeping, the absence of an elevator was a bit inconvenient for moving luggage up the stairs.

I spent two nights at Thistle Hotel and found the location to be one of its best features, being close to many attractions and restaurants. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcomed. However, the WiFi connectivity was poor, and I encountered some issues with room maintenance, which dampened my overall experience.
